Portfolio > ING Easy Transact

Background

ING is one of the worlds largest financial institutions, with many extranet and Internet applications. EasyTransact is one of the many extranet applications that is available to outside business. The purpose of EasyTransact is to provide facilities for businesses to deal with ING online.

With the initial extranet complete a complete re-design of the navigation system was required. ING also thought that businesses were having difficulty working with online forms and wanted tutorials developed.

Challenges and Opportunities

This was a good opportunity to use Macromedia Flash in a way that it was originally designed. The main challenge was to get the tutorials compresses enough for reasonable download.

Options

In regards to the tutorials there were two options:

  1. DHTML - animations;
  2. Macromedia Flash animations;

Solution

Macromedia Flash had numerous advantages, the main one being that flash is built around a time line idea; that meant that time based animation was much quicker to develop. Furthermore there are several things that can be done to reduce the download time of flash files that are not available in HTML.

Benefits

With a simplified navigation system and tutorials businesses feel it is easier to deal with ING online. It follows that staff resources can be directed to different areas of the ING business to further develop growth.
